Hello, Eric here with a few odd things from today.
First, in Swedish there was a funny quote from my teacher today. In English we can say things like "I love to dance" and mean "I like dancing" but you cannot say that in Swedish. He was explaining that to us today using a character from our textbook from America named, of all things, Betty. "Betty är från USA, så hon säger 'I love to dance'" When I got to the English part he put his hand on his forehead and affected his best girlish pose and used his most feminine voice. It translates to "Betty is from America so she would say..." You may have to have been there, but trust me, it was funny.
Also, since tomorrow Eric is being visited by his family, today is laundry day. So when he went to do the first load, imagine his surprise when four of the five machines against the closest wall to him were on (unusual for the middle of the day) and each one had 21 minutes left AND each one was set for bright colors, which is a bit unusual anyways (there are three laundry settings whites, colors and bright colors) So after he started his load he stuck around and watched. Sure enough, the one on the far end turned to 20, then a few seconds later the next and then the next. Someone was apparently doing 4 loads of bright laundry. But it gets weirder. When he came back to put his laundry in the dryer, one of the four machines was doing a normal load for someone else. The other three had not been opened (there is a different display on the machine after it has been opened.) Eric tried opening one to see, and there were no clothes in it. Or the other two. That means that somebody ran four machines but only had clothes in one of the four.
Also, if you are wondering why I'm blogging when I should be cleaning, the reason is that some people are filming something right by the garbage and recycling bins in the lounge area. I'm not sure what they're filming, but I'm going to wait until they're done to finish emptying my bins.
So there you have it, peculiar happenings and yours truly.

Goodbye Garfield, Hello Eric
Eric was talking to his friend John the other day, and he recommended an awesome and hilarious website. http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/
The creator takes old Garfield cartoons and edits Garfield out completely, showing just how bored/depressed/insane Jon Arbuckle really is.
On another Eric-related note, Eric is getting to celebrate his birthday 4 times this year. FIrst he had a fun birthday evening with his friend Cristina, whos birthday is about two weeks before his. They excahnged gifts and hung out at Barnes and Nobles for several hours. He got her little mini stuffed animals versions of Shigella, Lyme Disease and Bad Breath. (She's interested in nursing and so Eric thought they might be useful learning aids) SHe got him a book he'd wanted called Phantoms in the Brain and a box of Andes mints. It was a fun evening.
Then Eric celebrated with Chelsea on his actually birthday. After Swedish she "surprised" with an expected celebration in his room. We had balloons and party hats, champagne glasses filled with Dasani water. Chelsea got Eric Season 1 of the Big Bang Theory and he also got a 50 dollar gift card to Barnes and Nobles. Needless to say, within two hours of recieving the card, he had spent most of the money on it. Eric also got birthday cards from the 1st grade class he had worked in for a couple weeks. One girl wished that he would get 100 percent on all his tests. That evening the Linguistics club had a game night so Eric played taboo with a few Linguistic Undergrads, we call ourselves: THE UNDERLINGS.
Then last weekend Eric and Chelsea's aunt Chuckie (Laura to those of you unfamiliar with family nick-names) uncle Al and cousin Nathan had them over for dinner. Eric got a book of swear words in foreign languages and Chelsea got a moleskine notebook for London. Since he turned 21, Eric had about half a shot of Sake. Oh that's living.
And finally this weekend Eric's Mom, Dad other Sister Rachel and cousin Lexi will come visit for yet another birthday celebration. Who would have ever expected he'd be so lucky?
Oh and as a side note, Eric decided to write this blog in third person, despite being the only one writing it. More blogs will be on their way after this.

This Week In Pictures
This week was a little bit weird since we had the Veteran's Day holiday. Instead of observing it on Monday the 10th, we of course were given Tuesday off which made us think that Tuesday was a Saturday and Wednesday was a Monday. Last year, Veteran's Day was on a Sunday so we got that Monday off, which happened to be Eric's birthday. This year, Eric's birthday was on Wednesday.
This quarter has been going by way too fast. We almost forgot that our birthdays were coming up. Normally we'd go home the weekend between our birthdays, but we couldn't, and due to some pressing family issues, no one could come and visit us. So, our delightful mother sent Chelsea a "surprise-party-in-a-box" for Eric. Chelsea skipped her afternoon class (English 302) and she and Eric hung out all day. We had a birthday party in Eric's room and went out for lunch. Since Eric got a Barnes and Noble gift card in the mail, twe also went down to the U Village, and he wasted no time spending most of it, although he did purchase a book to give to a foster kid for Christmas.
It was Eric's 21st, so we did have some lovely plastic champagne glasses. Don't worry though, we were just drinking water:
Chelsea had two tests this week, one in History 261 and one in Dance. Both were pretty easy, since she had studied and prepared for them ahead of time. Eric also had a Swedish quiz which he thinks went pretty well.
Last night, we went out to dinner with some friends of Chelsea's, which was pretty fun. We ate at one of the many thai places on the Ave, although we'd never actually eaten there before.
I guess that's about it, nothing too exciting going around here...Chelsea's birthday is on Tuesday, so maybe something super fun will happen for that, but we're not promising anything. Today is our cousin Andrea's birthday, so Happy Birthday Andrea!

The Animal Campus
If you take a stroll through the UW campus, you'll most likely see a wide variety of animals. There are cute, fuzzy little grey squirrels everywhere. Plus, it's fairly likely you'll see mice, rats, raccoons, Canadian geese, and ducks. Last year, Eric and I were walking to the Ave (that's University Avenue, for those of you who aren't hip to the cool UW lingo) and a hawk flew right out in front of us, with a mouse in its talons!
I thought of this incident, because as I was leaving my 302 class about a half hour ago, there was an enormous hawk just sitting on the ground right outside of Sieg Hall. It was such a beautiful bird. I just wish I had my camera with me!

Making Up for Lost Time
Hey everyone, this is a Chelsea solo-post (not to be confused with Han Solo). I know we need to catch everyone up, so now's my chance.
School: As everyone knows, I have three classes: Dance 101, English 302, and History 261. School has been going fine, but I find this to be a particularly boring quarter, which may be why our blog has been slow as of late. There's just nothing that interesting going on around here!
Dance 101 is usually pretty fun, but it's 101. It's really basic stuff. When I started, I was a little bit out of shape so the simplicity of the class was a nice was to ease back into it, but I wish we could do more advanced things now. I am excited though, because we got discount tickets to see Alonzo King's Lines Ballet at the end of November, which is really amazing. It's like ballet and martial arts combined to make a performance medium, focusing on the lines and shapes that the body can make. It's really cool. Other than that we are going to start working on group choreography soon, so I'd better find a good group.
English 302 is a required class for English majors, so I'm glad that I'm getting it done. The title of the class is Critical Practice (see why I've been putting it off?) and the theme for the class is always up to the teacher. For this class, it's Electronic Literature and the Future of the Book. *pause for emphasis*. The only thing we've really read are essays and a book called Electronic Literature: A Critical Approach, which is all about how books may someday become obsolete. It's frustrating because I don't agree with most of it (I'm a big book fan), and we have to "read" works by new media authors from a disc that makes my hard drive sound like it's either about to take off into outer space or explode. Some of the works that are supposed to be considered "electronic literature" don't seem very literary at all, but more like a computer game. Oh well, I'll make it.
History 261 is technically called Crusades Through Arab Eyes. It's extremely interesting, but a lot of information to be thrown at someone all at once. I have a research paper due pretty soon. Lucky for me, the English majors in the class seem to have a leg up on the history majors in the writing department, so the paper doesn't seem to be too difficult to write. I just have to be motivated to get it done.
The last two weekends, Eric and I have gone home. My friends Kaylie and Craig are kind enough to pick me up at the ferry, and Eric tags along so that he can save some money by eating at home. On the 24th, Kaylie's family was having their annual pumpkin carving party, which I was invited to. It was a lot of fun! We went to Albertson's and grabbed some pumpkins and carved some lovely designs. Mine was a classic pumpkin, with a cute little smile, but Kaylie, Craig, and Marcea's were more elaborate. My friend Riley's was a bit...abstract. After we carved pumpkins, everyone just hung out and had fun together. Kaylie's cousin-in-law, Ross, was watching Wheel of Fortune so that he could practice. He recently took a trip down to California to play Wheel of Fortune. I guess he did pretty well, but he's waiting until the show airs in December to let everyone know how much he won. I will definately be watching! Plus, I hope the people on the show don't edit out the part where he kisses Pat Sajak on the lips! The next day, we drove all over town because Kaylie was taking senior pictures for Marcea and Craig. It was a gorgeous weekend, and a perfect time to get some photos.
I also got to go home for Halloween. I didn't get back in the time to dress up, but I did go to the half-time show at my old high school's football game. We are notorious for sucking at football, but the dance team did a remake of the skeleton dance that I did my sophomore year, which was very cute. Mostly, I went to see Kaylie's sister Marcea. She is in the marching band and they did a really great Halloween show to Thriller. It was awesome! Other than that, we visited my house and handed out some candy to cute little children in costumes, which is really what the holiday is all about right?
We decided to stay at our dorms this weekend. On Friday, we hung out with some friends of mine named Freddie and Lew. Yesterday, we had a twins day which involved going out to lunch and visiting the U Village. Today, we might visit the Burke Museum again.
As far as exciting things on campus go, on October 30th you may have heard that a man lit himself on fire in Red Square, which is a main thoroughfare of foot traffic here at the UW. I was with my friend Freddie in the Suzzallo Library (which is on Red Square) when it happened. We didn't actually see the man on fire, but when we tried to leave fifteen minutes later, we were trapped in the library because the police had roped off Red Square and wouldn't let anyone in or out. A bunch of people were standing around outside the taped area which was full of cops, fire trucks and vans, and an ambulance. There was a pile of blackened stuff, which turned out to be clothes. We had to go through another library and then around the back way to get out of the building. We were on site and we didn't even know what was going on. We kept hearing rumors abour a protestor, but nothing concrete. As our classmates began to trickle in, we heard that a former UW employee, a 61-year-old man has doused himself in gasoline and lit a match, burning himself alive. There were a lot of rumors as to why he did this (my favorite being that the Russian mafia was after him), but the truth is no one knows why he did it. He was rushed to Harborview, but died there later that day. My heart goes out to his family. I can't imagine what would prompt anyone to want to go in such a horrific way. I also feel for those people who had to watch it happen; that must have been traumatic. I'm glad we waited long enough to miss it!

Chelsea's Quiz Results

Hello everyone! Thanks for checking our blog. I know it's been too long and you all need your Braunsey fix. So here it is.
Today I walked into my Swedish class, I was barely on time, about half a second before the class started. I hurried to my desk and when I looked at the teacher I saw something strange. He was bundled up. Really bundled up. He had on two hats, two jackets, three shirts, two pairs of pants and a duffle bag full of other clothes. What was the point? We were learning about articles of clothing in Swedish today and whenever we got to an article, he'd take it off and show us. Granted he stopped when he got down to Jeans and a T-Shirt.
Well that's it for now. More soon....we promise...again.
