Frog and Todd

Today Eric visited his favorite first grade class.

Earlier this school year Eric worked for a few weeks in a first grade classroom. At the time there were two teachers with about 30 kids in each class. He was needed just to keep the class in order. Between Eric and the teacher there weren't enough adults to walk thirty kids to lunch. The line would break where ever the adult couldn't be. Right before he went back to school (at the UW) they got a third teacher and better class sizes. He still keeps in contact with his class through letters (he's gotten birthday and thanksgiving cars from them, as well as a few regular cards too). When he's back in town for vacation he likes to visit. It's always fun.

Today Eric was only there for a short time, and got to listen to a few kids read. One boy was reading the old classic, frog and toad. It was the one where frog and toad go swimming. He has become just a phenomenal reader since September except one funny little thing. He kept readin 'Toad' as 'Todd'. At one point, Eric pointed to the picture of Toad and said something like 'look at Toad's funny swimsuit'. He didn't pick up on that though and kept calling him Todd.

While the kids were leaving to go to PE they all said goodbye to Eric. The last girl to leave is one who is always kind of struggling but as she left she beamed the biggest smile and said 'I'm glad you got to come today'. It was a fun trip.
