The TV Game

Hello everyone, remember back in blog one (a week or so ago) we said that every once in a while our blog would venture into the solo territory? This is one of those times. While this is a one-Braunsey post, the seeds for it have their roots in Braunsey cooperation. Allow me to present the following dialogue

Chelsea: Eric, we should blog about the TV game sometime. Try to remember any funny instances of the TV game so we can use it later.

Eric: Mm. Okay.

So what is the TV game? I thought you'd never ask. One night, Eric ( the author of this post, who coincidentally likes refering to himself in the third person from time to time) was watching TV one night and bored stiff. Between popular reality show redone in a slightly new location and sitcom with an attractive yet naggy wife and overweight yet laidback husband Eric couldn;t find anything interesting on. Not to be discouraged he made up a game. You at home can play to. All you need is a TV and a quirky sense of humor. Remotes help but are not necessary. Here is what you do, watch one channel until you hear a really good line, then switch quickly to another channel to see if the two channels match up. Usually this ends in failure, but once in a while produces gems like:

Indecision can lead to...bombs! and rockets!
You just walk into your closet and say...male baboon.

After some fine tuning Eric taught the secrets of the game to his friend John, and they played for hours on end. Chelsea came back to find her brother and his friend channel surfing methodicaly and laughing hysterically, they taught her the game and the rest is, as they say history. When the Braunsey twins first came to UW one year ago, they didn't have a tv in their rooms. So how could we adapt the rules? We made up a new game, calling it the TV Game, but in reality it was more like the taking-things-people-say-out-of-context-with-humorous-results game, but that was too much of a mouthfull plus it alerted others to our game. So we just called it the tv game, but now it was just things out of context.

Eric studies linguistics here and one of the first things you learn in that class is that most of the things people say have never ever been said before. Our games are proof of that. For example:

Person1: How is the architecture here?
Person2: It's tight!

It took him forty years to get married and she ended up being taller than him!

(sounding annoyed) It was supposed to be this really amazing cheese factory

And from this weekend, Eric went to the bookstore (where his ATM is located, a strategic location if ever there was one) and as he was leaving two teenage (or maybe early 20's) girls came rushing in, giggling as teenage girls do, and one very excitedly said to the other:

Hey let's go get some lanyards!!

So if you ever find yourself bored while wacthing television, just remember the Braunsey twins and try the TV game out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
