First Day

For some reason that title, "First Day", reminds me of the movie Airplane.

Old Lady: Nervous?
Ted Stryker: *Nods* Yes.
Old Lady: *Pats Ted on the writst* First time?
Ted Stryker: No, I've been nervous lots of times.

If you haven't seen Airplane, I'd suggest it. It's a hilarious movie, and a bit of a favorite in my family. If you have seen Airplane, good going!

So, now to get back on topic...today was our first day of school. Chelsea has Dance 101 (which her roomate tried to talk her out of since she said it would be way too easy) at 8:30 in the morning. It was alright, even though there was very little actual dancing...mostly just jumping and running around, but the teachers are very cool. Out of about 45 students in the class, only about 10-15 of them are male. This isn't a big surprise, but when the instructor was calling out names, the first three guys in the class were named Courtney, Rene (I'm assuming it's not spelled Renee), and Shelby. Courtney, who is quite a meaty guy, immediately said, "I go by Court." *Beats chest* Very manly! Chelsea also has English 302 which is technically called Critical Practice. 302 is a required course for English majors, so there are 302 classes being taught every quarter. Unfortunately, this quarter, the topic of Critical Practice is "Electronic Literature". Needless to say, although the professor is a nice guy, the class is boring and will probably continue to be that way for the rest of eternity. *Sigh* At least it will be done.

Eric had a language-packed day today. He only had two of his classes, but they were both language classes, Swedish followed directly by Japanese. Since he is a linguistics major, he has to take two languages. He already speaks Japanese, but decided to try Swedish as well. His Swedish class was pretty cool, he learned how to say things like, "hello" and "my name is Eric". Japanese was fun as well, but he spent the first 5 minutes of class trying to find the room. He had written down the wrong room number and was looking for room 201, but his class was really in 242. The funny thing about the situation is that he had his class in Mary Gates Hall...and there is no room 201 in MGH. In fact, the rooms go from 231 to 241 to 251 to 287. Weird. Chelsea thinks it's funny that her dance class is in Meany Hall. Meany is kind of an unfortunate surname, don't you think? Teasing fodder for sure!

Eric has all 3 classes tomorrow, including Japanese History. Chelsea has dance again at 8:30, but instead of English 302, she has History 261 which has to do with the Crusades. She thinks tomorrow sounds infinitely more fun than today. Whereas Eric likes nothing more than a good language class, so he thinks tomorrow will be about the same.

We promise to post some pictures soon!
