Quick Recap- Part 2: Saturday-Sunday

Hey there, welcome to the second installment of our weekend recap.

Saturday:
When Eric woke up on Saturday, it was already raining, and that set the tone for the rest of the day. Not that it was a bad rain, it was actually quite pleasant. It just didn't let up for the rest of the day. Perfect zoo weather, don't you think? The girl at the front gate thought so too! When we arrived at the Woodland Park Zoo, the girl who takes our hard-earned money (or our dad's) said, "This is a great day to visit the zoo. The animals are more likely to be out when it's raining." We thought, "Yeah right", but smiled politely anyways. Turns out it was true. The only animals that weren't out in full force were the humans. There were a few other people there, but it was less crowded than usual...even considering the group of 15 that we were a part of (15: Chelsea, Eric, Father Braun, Mother Braun, Rachel, Uncle Al, Aunt Chukkie, cousins Jessica, Andrea, Nathan, Hannah, Stella, and Abby, and friends Freddie, and her Dad Doug).

Eric wants to mention that Chelsea's umbrella was broken already, and his broke when he opened it. So, we got new umbrellas at the zoo gift shop. Eric's head was too big for the cheaper kiddie umbrellas, so he had to get one of the more expensive ones. Chelsea, however, has a very petite head (Chelsea's words, Eric thinks tiny is more accurate) and she chose a cute little penguin umbrella. It was awesome because it had a little penguin head sticking out of the top and little flippers on the sides. Plus, she got to compare it with the small children who passed by. Chelsea will not be using this umbrella at school. Eric's was also penguin themed- a row of penguins walking along an Antarctic (Antarctican? Antarcticarian?) landscape.

We got up close and personal with some awesome animals such as nocturnal porcupines, giant bats, lice-eating/hand-holding gorillas, sleeping jaguars (we let them lie), birds that ate right out of our hands, yawning anacondas, and a mound of Brazilian cockroaches the likes of which no kitchen has ever seen. It was fun to share this all with family and friends, but as the day wore on we were getting tired. So, we decided to find a place where we could just sit down and rest. This magical place ended up being the Historic Carousel. The twins' older sister Rachel rode a horse with cousin Stella (2 1/2), Chelsea and cousin Nathan (10) rode horses next to one another, and Eric and cousin Hannah (4) rode a horse. The horses had plaques stating their name and who donated them. Chelsea (who LOVES names), noticed that Nathan's horse was called Charlie and so she began investigating the names of the horses around her. Eric (who just has a platonic relationship with names) doesn't remember the name of his horse, but he decided instead to ask Hannah what their horse should be named. Hannah, who is known for coming up with the best names for her dolls and other toys, decided to give her horse a name of the same caliber, Celery. Can you think of a more appropriate horsey name? We sure can't! Inspired by Freddie's dad, Eric took a number of pictures on his camera phone. If we can figure out how to put those pictures on the computer, we'll post them for all to see.

Sunday:
Sunday was a day for relaxing and getting things organized in our rooms. Eric likes this Chinese bakery which is really more a cafe, where you can get chinese food, pastries, bubble tea, etc. They serve a Taiwanese-style popcorn chicken that will knock your socks off as well as an awesome selection of milk tea. It's got a very collegiate feel to it, and is stocked with board games. So, the Braunsey twins decided to play LIFE, which is always fun. During our first game of LIFE (which was actually on Friday) Chelsea's best friend Kaylie called to say that she had passed her written test and is now fully licensed to do hair! Hallelujah, she is done with the petty crap at the Hair School and can move on with her life! She definately deserves it. Way to go Kaylie! However, when Chelsea explained that Kaylie had already passed her practical test, Eric (in proper Eric fashion) said, "Practial test? Did she also have to pass an impractical test?" Ah Eric, always the literal thinker. An example from the impractical test is: A 32-foot cyclops with a tuft of blue hair wants a perm, what do you do? If that's not funny to you, then I have to say that you really had to be there. We are a bit quirky and crack each other up all the time.

If you like quirky humor, we also have a great story about Bartell's, which is the corner drugstore that is just a short walk from out dorm. When we need to get a few small items, we usually shop there. We stopped by the other day, and Eric (of course) beelined straight for the tea isle. Eric was observing the inspirational quotes on the tops of the Yogi Tea boxes. The first box was for "being regular"...in other words, pooping on schedule...and the other was simply a ginger tea. The tea for "being regular" had an uplifting quote about being there for others. The ginger tea's quote said, "Just sit down, relax, and wait for it. It will come." We thought those quotes should be switched. What do you think?

The rest of the day we spent just hanging out, doing the laundry, etc. We also met our RA (resident advisor) Kristy, who was going around, knocking on people's doors and introducing herself. She met both of us in Eric's room, and since we were still on a slight energy high from our first hilarious venture into twinly wit (blog style) we were more charming than ever. Kristy said she was looking forward to being our RA this year because we were so funny together. She also said that she has a hard time with names and would have to refer to us as "the twins". No arguments there.

So there you have it, that was our weekend. From now on, we will not be chronicaling our every move, but just mentioning hilarious highlights and points of interest. We just had to set the stage, so thanks for being patient with our initial novel-length blogs. Excuse us, we're going to do some more awesome things so we'll have something to blog about later.
